March 20, 2022 by Mark

Last updated on 21 January 2023

Spotify vs YouTube music is a hard comparison, I must say. Both of the applications allow you to access your favourite songs anywhere, anytime. You can discover new songs using both apps. In addition, they will enable you to create your own music playlist and stream the songs according to your mood.

Pricing, subscription plans, music library, and so on, all factors are essential in determining the best music streaming application.

Spotify Vs YouTube Music

However, YouTube and Spotify have vast differences. For example, the library sizes,  music quality,  content coverage, and speed. In addition, the main difference lies among both is the premium plans.

    • 1.1 Pricing and Plan Comparison
    • 1.2 Music Library and Songs Selection
    • 1.3 Who is the winner?

Both of the applications have their free plan pros and cons. However, both have specified limitations regarding free subscriptions.

Youtube Music gives you a choice to pick and play any of the wanted tracks. Under the free plan, you can play and skip the songs as many times as you want.

On the negative side, you can not listen to the songs if your screen turns off. The song itself stops if you get out of the application. This is, however, the biggest drawback of google music browsing. Moreover, the music quality of the free version is limited to 128 kbps. In addition, you can not download the songs to your phone, and your song will get interrupted by unwanted ads as well.

Hold on! What about Spotify?

The last points are, however, common in Spotify as well! You can not listen to your desired track offline in the free version. Other limitations include the ad’s interruption. However, music quality is better as compared to the YouTube music, i.e., 160 kbps.

On the negative side of this application, the music skipping option is limited. You can skip a song up to 6 times in an hour.

Pricing and Plan Comparison

If we get out of the free versions of both applications, the debate of pricing starts!

Both music services have different premium plans for their users. However, Spotify plans are not available in the number of countries.

Youtube Music allows you to subscribe to the premium plan for $2 per month or 11.99$ to enjoy the ad-free experience. This includes YouTube music downloading, background music play, and much more.

On the other hand, Spotify offers three different premium plans to the users. The student plan costs $4.99; the family plan charges $14.99 for six-member.

In addition, the single person monthly subscription charge $9.99 per month. The rates are, however, too much in comparison to Youtube music. But, the premium features are also unbeatable.

Music Library and Songs Selection

In regard to the music collection, the competition among both applications is tough. According to an estimate, Spotify has 30 million songs in the playlist.

On the other side, YouTube music does not allow you to enjoy such a number of songs. However,  YouTube deals with record labels and indirect directory of the songs. You can find several recorded concerts and fan-uploaded songs as well. This is somehow not a beneficial option for users. Therefore, you can enjoy a vast music library using YouTube music.

In short, the Spotify playlist is massive but precise. It is an excellent option for music discovery and vast music streaming.

Who is the winner?

In the end, the question that pop-up in mind is that who will be going to win the battle? In the race pf Spotify vs YouTube music, the winner is not defined.

Conclusively, both applications have bright and dark sides. Make sure that before going towards the premium version, you try the free version of both platforms. You can use YouTube music for free up to a month, while the Spotify music for three months nearly.
